June 2024 News!

“Wings alone won’t make you fly, you must have the courage to try.” KAH

Do you hear the sound of wings flapping. Nope it’s not the cicadas, it’s me. This bird is trying to fly again.

I’m happy to announce that on Sunday, June 23rd I’ll be taking part in my first outdoor tent show in years.
Lindenhurst Artisan Market
2040 E.Grand Ave
Lindenhurst,IL

Joining me in this venture is my friend Julie DeReu owner of Wool Weed. She crafts yarn from raw wool into beautiful skeins of fine colorful yarns. If you like the colors I use in my work you’ll like hers.

Hope to see you there:)

I’m Still Here! :)

I apologize for my silence, 2022 was a rough year. Sadly I know I am not alone in that. Rest assured I am still persisting to exist, so is that delightfully stubborn octogenarian who is my art show support staff.

Speaking of stubbornness..it’s that time of year again when those who live in or around the Chicago area can get their goat at Capricon43 which is this weekend.

I still will not be able to attend the con in person however my art is there.

For more details..Click on image above to go to Con Homepage

In the Art Show you will find my latest entry in the annual Capricon Artist Challenge or as I’ve started calling the ongoing saga, “Capricious’s Challenging Life”

The title “Not Yet!:P ” is a nod to the Monty Python’s “bring out your dead” sketch. In case you were you curious. The required elements for this years challenge is listed on the CapriCon43 website on the Art Show page. Prints of the above image will be available as soon as I get my printer serviced:)

As well as prints of my new series, “If Bears had wings” created especially for Mrs. Jean Hollingsworth (aka Mom).

That is all for now. Hopefully I will be able to post more often as this year progresses.

Happy Heart Day

I hope all of you that were able to attend the first ever virtual Capricon41 last weekend had a good time. Sadly I lost my internet connection around 9pm on the 5th. So missed most of it. With any luck by the time Capricon42 rolls around it will be safe to hold a live convention again.

For all of those who also missed out on the virtual Capricon41 on this Valentine’s Day, I’d like to share what my latest finished piece. I shared in the Art Show’s Discord for “Just finished Friday”. ( Before I my DSL modem died.)

media: illustration (Albrecht Durer watercolor colored pencils & white Acryla gouache & Prismacolor Premier white colored pencil on Fabriano hot press studio watercolor) lettering (Photoshop)

In the interest of full discloser the illustration in the image above was not my original composition. It was copied from one of the many Dover books full of copyright free images for artists and crafts people.

Below is the exact image I copied.

Reference from Pictorial Archive of Printer’s Ornaments, published by Dover. pg.62 3rd row, second imagine down.

I’m sharing is with you so I can address an issue that I’m certain many of us have dealt with this last year, artist block. We all go through times when doing art feels trivial, the craziness and weight of real world matters makes it hard to create. One way to find your way out of artist block is coping. I am not advocating plagiarism. Finding copyright free images is best for this practice if you intend to sell your finished work. Usually in the process of coping my creative juices start flowing and I start thinking of ways I would draw things differently.
